Ellen first started her career in education in 2012, after spending the previous two years working as a supervisor in retail. During her time at her first school, Ellen wore several ‘hats’ including English Department Assistant, Reprographics Technician and English tutor for students who had been permanently excluded from the school. Ellen realised that her passion was working with and supporting young people, so when the role of Pastoral Support Assistant became available at Arthur Mellows in early 2016, she jumped at the opportunity. Since being employed at Arthur Mellows, Ellen has spent the last 6 years supporting students and their families daily and has built-up a wealth of knowledge and experience to ensure she provides the highest quality of care to all.

Alongside her Pastoral role, Ellen also quickly took on the role of Early Help Coordinator and has a thorough understanding of the Early Help process and how this can help support students’ and their families through a variety of situations. Through her role as Early Help Coordinator, Ellen has fostered many positive relationships with local agencies and support services and prides herself on being able to signpost students and their families to the most appropriate service and support them along their journey, whatever that may look like. Ellen was also given the position of Mental Wellbeing Support Worker and has worked alongside staff, students, and outside agencies to help improve the mental wellbeing of all, as well as working to foster a culture where mental wellbeing is always a priority. Ellen is excited to continue that work at Manor Drive Secondary Academy and is committed to the ethos that everyone deserves to have their wellbeing nurtured and protected.

Ellen has completed numerous courses relating to students’ wellbeing, including training to be a Mental Health First Aider with MHFA (Mental Health First Aid) England. Ellen also holds a degree in English Literature, which she completed with The Open University, alongside working full time. Ellen believes that learning is a lifelong ambition and, as such, has recently completed qualifications in Child Psychology and Autism Awareness, which have helped to develop her already existing skill set. Additionally, Ellen is currently working on qualifications in SEND, Educational Psychology and Challenging Behaviour in Children and Young People.

Ellen is really looking forward to the opening of Manor Drive and meeting the brand-new cohort of young people in September. She is keen to get to know the students well and work with them to make their secondary school experience as positive and memorable as possible.
